House System

Our House System
At Darwen Vale High School, our House System is a key part of school life. It has been designed to foster a sense of belonging, encourage healthy competition, and support our commitment to outstanding pastoral care. Through their House, every student becomes part of a wider community that they can take pride in throughout their time at school.

Students from all year groups work together to earn points, compete in events, and strive to win the prestigious House Cup. Each House is made up of pupils with a wide range of talents, interests, backgrounds, and abilities, creating opportunities for students to build relationships beyond their own year group. By working together towards shared goals, students develop teamwork, resilience, respect, and a strong sense of community.
The House System helps to create a culture in which students support and encourage one another. It promotes the values we want our young people to carry forward into adult life: kindness, tolerance, ambition, responsibility, and mutual respect.

Every form group belongs to one of our four Houses, and students remain in the same House throughout their five years at Darwen Vale High School. This continuity helps to build lasting House identity and pride.
Students can earn House Points in a variety of ways, including:
-
Excellent attendance and punctuality
-
Demonstrating the Aldridge Attributes
-
Academic achievement and effort
-
Participation in House and faculty competitions
-
Positive contributions to school life
House Points are recorded through Bromcom and regularly displayed around the school, allowing students to track progress and celebrate success. Throughout the year, students take part in a range of House competitions and events, culminating in the awarding of the House Cup and a special reward for the winning House.
